Minor earthquake recorded outside Smiley

The U.S. Geological Service reported a 3.1 magnitude earthquake occurred approximately 10-kilometers east of Nixon, Texas, (near Smiley) located in Gonzales County. The USGS reports the time of the earthquake was at 5:52 A.M.

As of press time, the Gonzales County Sheriff's Office has not received any reports from county residents regarding the earthquake about damage or otherwise; and is still awaiting confirmation from the USGS.
