Mustangs awarded all-district honors

Nixon-Smiley made it to the UIL football playoffs taking second in District 15-3A2 with a district record of 3-2. Multiple Mustangs were selected to the all-district team.

Named offensive co-MVPs are junior quarterback Colby Newman and Stockdale’s Josh Rangel. Named special teams co-MVPs are Jonathan Carlos and Natalia’s Oscar Alvarez.

On the first-team offensive all-district list are seniors Joey Mendez, Dylan Maldonado, Jonathan Carlos and Genaro Vasquez. Named to the second team are Blaze Sandoval, Rodrigo Acevedo, Devin Hester, Steven Solis and Daniel Rodriguez. Jake Torres and Matt Mills were honorable mentioned.

Mustangs on the first-team defense all-district list are Dylan Maldonado, Colby Newman, Jonathan Carlos, Rodrigo Acevedo and Joey Mendez. Named to the second team are Elix Carillo, Devin Hester, Jason Yell, Genaro Vasquez and Daniel Rodriguez. Honorably mentioned are defensive linemen Luis Perez, Jose Melendez and Emilio Guzman.
