Mustangs compete at district track meet

NIXON — The Nixon-Smiley Mustangs had a few athletes reach the medal stand in the District 27-3A track meet last Wednesday, while a few others had top-six finishes to add to team’s overall score. The boys’ varsity team placed sixth with 46 points, beating out Universal City Randolph and Schulenburg. Meanwhile, the Lady Mustangs varsity’ team placed eighth in the district.

Leading the way was Justice Torres who was the school’s lone gold medalist as he took first in the 400-meter run. He edged out Jake Torres who took second in the same run. Meanwhile, the 4x400-relay team of Jake Torres, Jose Mendez, Matthew Mills and Justice Torres placed second.

Top varsity athletes will compete in the area meet on Wednesday, April 19 at Judson High in Converse. Top athletes will then advance to the Region IV-3A meet from April 28-29 at D.W. Rutledge Stadium in Converse.
