LULING — Nixon-Smiley has been on a downfall, dropping their fourth straight District 27-4A game, a 53-42 loss to the Luling Eagles, a team they previously beat in the year.
Luling came out to a 16-13 lead in the first quarter before running off a 22-8 second quarter to get up to 38-21 lead at the half. The Mustangs cut the lead a bit with their 12-9 third quarter and 9-6 fourth quarter but ultimately lost by 11 to their district mates.
Jordan Lopez was the lead scorer with 13 points. Jose Melendez was right behind with nine. Treon Fatheree added eight, Jordan Van Auken had seven, Jason Yell had three and Rodrigo Acevedo had two.
Nixon-Smiley now falls to 4-4 in the district and currently out of the playoffs behind UC Randolph, Schulenburg, Hallettsville and Marion.
The Mustangs look to get back on the winning side of things as they host Stockdale (1-7) at home with tipoff set at 8 p.m.
