Mustangs eliminated from playoff contention

POTH — Nixon-Smiley has been officially eliminated from playoff contention after taking a 42-0 loss against the Poth Pirates, a contender that’s in the top of the district.

The Mustangs dropped to 0-4 in district, 2-7 overall while Poth moved up to 4-0 in district, 8-1 overall.

Poth ran 41 times for 414 yards, compared to Nixon-Smiley’s 36 attempts for 174 yards.

Leading the offense was Daniel Rodriguez who ran six times for 63 yards, including a 44-yard long rush. Colby Newman rushed 15 times for 61 yards. Newman also had an interception in the game.

Nixon-Smiley closes out their football season against the rivals, the Stockdale Brahmas (4-5, 2-2), at home this Friday, with kickoff set at 7:30 p.m.
