NIXON — The Nixon-Smiley Mustangs (2-6, 0-3) played a Saturday afternoon game due to electrical issues Friday night, against the Dilley Wolves (4-4, 2-1), losing the bout 20-6.
The lone touchdown of the first half was a 47-yard interception return by Dilley in the second quarter. Dilley added an eight-yard run in the fourth quarter to go up 12-0 before the Mustangs finally answered with a 31-yard touchdown run by Devin Hester to cut the lead to 12-6. Dilley finished with a 10-yard touchdown pass late to give the Wolves the eventual 20-6 win.
Hester led the team in rushing with nine carries for 68 yards and a score. Colby Newman struggled, rushing 22 times for 18 yards. He also threw 13 times, completing seven for 32 yards and two interceptions.
Nixon-Smiley take on Poth (7-1, 3-0) on the road this Friday, with kickoff set at 7:30 p.m.
