Mustangs rewarded with district awards

NIXON — District 27-3A, the district Nixon-Smiley competes in, released their all-district teams, with various Nixon-Smiley baseball players making the list.
Making it to the all-district first team are senior infielder Jordan Van Auken and junior outfielder Colby Newman. On the second team are junior pitcher Ricky Flores, junior infielder Devin Hester and senior outfielder Dylan Maldonado.
The Nixon-Smiley Mustangs finished the season tied for sixth in the district with their record of 3-11, tying with Stockdale (3-11) and beating out UC Randolph (1-13). Hallettsville won the district title at 13-1, followed by Yoakum (11-3), Marion (11-3) and Schulenburg (8-6). Luling took fifth at 6-8.
