New library: A gift to community

GONZALES — Through the generosity of many benevolent people and businesses, the City of Gonzales and the community now have a new and improved library and not one cent of city money was spent to give this gift to the community.

Benefactors include: Barbara Jo Brothers, building and renovations; BYK USA, Children's Room; Charlie Dubose, Gun Gallery display – on loan for 10 years; John Tinsley, Jim and Rita Tinsley, and Everett and Carolyn Deschner, The Mary Elizabeth Tinsley Texas History Center; The Tocker Foundation, main library furnishings; Sage Capital Bank, coffee bar; coffee bar; Frames & Things, donor plaques; Girl Scout Troop 202, flower beds; GVEC Power Up Grant, circulation desk; H-E-B Tournament of Champions, 16 new computers; Jay Dorrough, Gun Gallery cabinetry; Ida McGarity, rear entrance lighted mural; as well as shelving sponsors, teen volunteers, contractors, builders and architects and The Friends of the Library.

The Robert Lee Brothers Jr. Memorial Library, featuring the Mary Elizabeth Tinsley Texas History Center, officially opened last Wednesday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house.

Library Board members are: Vicki Frenzel, President; Erwin Ckodre, Vice President; Noelle Ince, Treasurer; Swann Reid, Secretary; as well as Dean Davis, Dot Eberle, Ida McGarity and Marth Jo Whitt.

Library Staff are: Caroline Helms-Blundell, Library Director; Lucy Martinez, Becky Villa and Sandra Villa.

Library hours are: Monday – 11 a.m. until 7 p.m.; Tuesday through Friday – 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.; and Saturday – 9 a.m. until noon.
