Nixon awards contracts for sidewalks, lights

NIXON — City Council voted last week to award a contract for administrative services for the city’s downtown revitalization project to Langford Community Management Services. Council announced they were the only qualified and responsible bidder for the grant — which will cover sidewalk and lighting installation.

City Administrator Manuel Zepeda said Langford Representative Shauna Cosper worked extensively with the city to get the first new sidewalks along HWY 80 from the city’s bank up to its drug store. After that she helped establish another sidewalk from City Hall to the Nixon Public Library.

“She did a tremendous job with all of the paperwork, and consequently her company was selected again,” Zepeda said.

Zepeda explained that Langford will manage the newest program — which will include more new sidewalks and lighting in the downtown area.

The council also awarded a contract for the project’s engineering services to Befco Engineering, who was the only qualified and responsible bidder in that department.

“The engineering company will make sure all work is done to the specifications of the grant,” Zepeda noted.

Chad Emmel, an engineer with Befco, said he and his company were happy to once again assist the city.

“We’d be proud to help extend the sidewalks from 3rd St. down to the library,” Emmel said. “As Mr. Zepeda pointed out, we were [picked] to design the previous session, and hopefully that’s a good thing in the city’s eyes. As the process continues, we look forward to providing the same look and lighting as best as we can provide.”
