Nixon city admin ‘takes reigns’

NIXON — Harold Rice has officially “taken the reigns” as Nixon's as interim city administrator. Born and raised in the Nixon area, Rice graduated from Nixon-Smiley CISD in 1985 before going to Bee County College to study education.

Rice says one of his goals as city manager is improve the city's image; another is to bring new businesses to town. He and his wife own three stores in Nixon – “The Cutting Edge,” “Texas Outfitters” and “Texas Bottle Haus.”

Rice added that the first thing he wants to do is contact TxDOT and find out when they are going to resume work on the intersection of Highways 87 and 80 – a project that has been at a standstill for several months now and is causing heavy traffic congestion in the area.

“On Main Street, the west side of town, you can't park,” he said. “Because of that those businesses have to be hurting.”
