Officials warn of ‘concrete treatment’ scam in Nixon, surrounding areas

A scam targeting elderly people has reached Nixon and local police agencies are asking for help to catch the criminals.

According to officials, two Hispanic men are approaching elderly victims who own property that have concrete or paved driveways. The pair approach property and begin work without asking their victims for permission. After they start their “concrete treatment,” the duo intimidate property owners into writing checks as payments for the work they’ve done.

“This is work that can be done for pennies,” officials say, “certainly not thousands of dollars.”

Tuesday morning, the two men approached a victim who wrote a $4,000 check and when the victim refuse to go with them to the bank to cash it, required the victim to write another $8,000 check. Another woman called Nixon police and said she was also a victim, claiming the two “treated” her driveway 3-4 months ago and was charged $4,000 at the time. They came back today and told her they needed to do more work for an additional $5,000.

Contact was made by Nixon police and both men are on probation out of Florida for exploitation of an elderly person. They are currently driving a black, four-door Ford truck. Officials state it can be an F-350 or F-250, with a flatbed that has chrome sprayed. On the truck, there is a lime green and black decal, under the driver side mirror, of a horse.

If you run across these two men or have any other issues, contact your local agency.
