Only a fool would say there is no God

I love nature! It inspires me to witness the marvels in this world. Whose spirit is not calmed by the sound of the sea and the whispering of the wind? Whose has not soared by the spectacular show of colors of the sun when it sets and rises? Who is not awestruck by the unleashed power and force of a hurricane, a tornado or predator in pursuit of its meal?

Anyone who takes time to inspect the relationship of insects and flowers, the ebb and flow of the oceans, the changing of the seasons, and the cycle of life and death can see that it was all designed to work in perfect harmony by a Supreme Architect. There is intended purpose everywhere you look. David must have been struck by this fact when he stated in Psalm 104...“O Lord, how many and varied are your works! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your riches and your creatures. There is the sea, vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond number --living things both large and small--these all look to you to give them their food at the proper time. When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things.”

I had a revelation about this as I was walking the dogs around the property not long ago. It was a perfect day to take a leisurely stroll and enjoy the beauty of nature. As I was admiring the many designs and colors among the wildflowers, and the texture of the white clouds against the clear blue sky; a gentle breeze came out of nowhere and caressed my face. It was such a soft 'loving touch' that I paused where I was, stood very still, and closed my eyes to fully enjoy the experience. Instinctively my head tilted toward the sun to feel its warmth against my face and to listen to the wind. It is amazing what can be heard when we really focus on listening. The first thing I heard was the whisper of the wind as it blew through my hair and traveled past my ears. Shortly, I began to distinguish other sounds: the low murmurings of the cows in a nearby pasture; our geese flapping about in their pool; the melodies of birds singing in the trees and the chattering of birds in flight; the lulling hum of a lawnmower in the distance, the rumbling of a passing plane, the chirping of crickets, and the high-pitched squeals of children at play. I breathed in deeply as if to make the feeling last, and with that breath, inhaled the scent of honey from the flowers all around me. The sweetness was so palpable I could almost taste it!

These connections with nature always soothe my soul. Have you ever wondered why we feel such peace and contentment as we stand in awe of creation? The answer is in Romans 1:20 “For that which is known about God is evident to them and made plain in their inner consciousness, because God [Himself] has shown it to them. For ever since the creation of the world His invisible nature and attributes, that is, His eternal power and divinity, have been made intelligible and clearly discernible in and through the things that have been made (His handiworks).” (Amplified bible)

We sense God in all living things because He reveals himself to us through everything He has created. All of the awesome beauty, intricate complexity, intrigue, perfect harmony of purpose, charm, unconditional love and power that are apparent in the created things around us, are attributes of the One who made them.

How many of us truly understand the depth of God's love for us? I don't think we fully acknowledge the many ways He has chosen to bless us; nor do we thank Him as often we should. We are so busy trying to achieve happiness by our own efforts that we overlook the obvious blessings we already have. Too many of us are desperately searching for what is right in front of our noses. Our tendency to be internally focused tunes out the symphony that is playing all around us.

Just think about it! In His goodness God filled the world with color, with textures, with sounds, with flavors, and with scents...and designed us with the sense of sight, of touch, of hearing, of taste and of smell so that we could experience and enjoy every good thing He made! Everything that God created was made for our pleasure. This is where many of us get stuck. We consider ourselves to be the center of this universe, and everything else a source of sensual pre-occupation. When emotional highs and exhilarating physical sensations become the primary objective in our lives, our ability to make good choices suffers. The bible tells us that the natural person is not able to perceive the spiritual things of God, and without access to His wisdom and understanding we will walk around blindly and out of sync with Him. He is our source of understanding and wisdom; without which, chaos rules. Ironic how self-serving attitudes are really self-defeating.

Everything good that we experience should bring our thoughts back around to the One who made all these wonderful things possible for us. He, and He alone, has the power to create; life and death lie solely in His hands. Does He not deserve to be acknowledged for loving us so much that He sacrificed His only son to make eternal life possible for us? Who are we that our Creator should be concerned about us? He deserves our love, respect, adoration and full devotion for who He is and for all He has done for us.

Open your eyes and look around. Only a fool would say there is no God.

God keep you safe till next time...
