Project Graduation plans underway

For the last decade-and-a-half, Project Graduation has ruled as the go-to event for grads looking for one last blowout before they all bid one another adieu.

In Gonzales, Project Graduation is sponsored by the local Pilot Club. Stephanie Gacke is the coordinator of the event, now into her sixth – and final – year of fundraising so that students have a proper send-off.

Gacke announced that in her last year as chairperson for Project Graduation, she wanted to express her gratitude to the Pilot Club of Gonzales for their dedication to keeping students safe by continuing this event for 15 years.

“Thank you to the entire Gonzales community for their support through financial, food and volunteer contributions,” Gacke said. “The Apache village is strong and generous. This program could not survive without your help.”

Gacke also wanted to thank Jami Owens, whom she regarded as “a champion for our program from GISD.

“Jami personally makes sure every graduating senior has an opportunity to attend Project Graduation by arranging bus transportation to the event and ensuring that all permission slips are completed,” Gacke noted. “She attends meetings for TxDOT graduation-event grants and fills out the applications. In addition to her many behind-the-scenes roles, Jaime will spend the entire night after graduation with our seniors at Disciple Oaks Retreat Center to help us ensure they get the grand sendoff that they deserve. Thank you Jami.”

Gacke said Graduation Night will be May 26, with an all-night lock-in party for seniors and one guest of high school age or older. The event will take place at Disciple Oaks Retreat Center. Its theme for 2017 is “A Night in Atlantic City.” There will be games, swimming, music and food. Each senior walks away with some cash – one gets a $500 grand prize.

The Pilots are still accepting donations for Project Graduation. For more information, contact a member of the Pilots Club.
