Rachel Garcia Trevino, 72, of Gonzales, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2020. Rachel was born May 10, 1947 in San Diego, Texas to Eloise Moreno and Juan Mario Garcia, Sr. Rachel was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Gonzales.

Rachel found her passion early on in life. In 1976, she attended the police academy in Victoria, Texas. From there, she continued her career in law enforcement for almost 40 years, where she served as a Deputy Sheriff and a Chief Dispatcher with the Gonzales County Sheriff’s Office and the Gonzales Police Department.

With this profession, Rachel was a strong, well-known woman of her community. She was quick to light up a room with her loud and contagious laugh, and fun-loving spirit. She absolutely adored her children. She loved to gamble and travel, going places such as: Las Vegas, South Padre Island and Cabo, Mexico. Rachel also had a thrill for going on cruises, took pleasure in her plants and flowers, and admired her companion dogs and cats. She presented herself with compassion wherever she went, and was sure to offer her love and support to all things in her life.

Rachel is survived by her daughters, Yvonne “Bonnie” San Miguel and Norma Jean “Diddle” Trevino, both of Gonzales, son, Juan Humberto “Johnny” Trevino, Jr. of Gonzales, brother, Juan Mario Garcia, Jr. and wife Linda of Helotes, Texas, grandchildren, Melissa Cuevas and husband Anthony, Michael San Miguel, III, Angel Trevino, Sabrina Trevino, Nicholas Trevino, Victoria Trevino, and Dominic Flores, Jr., great-grandchildren, Ysabella, Freddie, Lundon, Linen, Peace, Daniel, Jr., Nathan, Addisyn, and Mia, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2020 in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home, with a rosary to follow at 7 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2020 in St. James Catholic Church, with Father Paul Raaz officiating. Interment will follow in the St. James Cemetery. Pallbearers include Michael San Miguel, II, Nicholas Trevino, Dominic Flores, Lundon Trevino, Juan Mario Garcia, III, Angel Trevino, and Anthony Cuevas.
