Ragin Cajun Throwdown roars into Luling on Saturday

Posted

In a sure sign that spring is here, the annual Luling Ragin’ Cajun Throwdown is set for this Saturday, March 14 in downtown Luling.
Music, vendors and some of the best Cajun cooking this side of Louisiana will be available for attendees to partake in.
On Friday night, cookers will have to turn their desserts in at 8 p.m. On Saturday, that’s when things really get cooking in Luling. At 9 a.m. there will be check-in for the cookoff. At 9:30 a.m., there is a meeting for the head cooks of each individual team entry. Then at 10 a.m. the cookoff begins. At 10:30, the Bloody Mary turn-in is due, followed by the Open Category turn in at noon. Then that is followed up by the Showmanship award, the Jambalaya turn-in, the Gumbo turn-in, the People’s Choice turn-in and finally the Winners announcement and auction begins.
Additionally, all day long there will be plenty of crawfish available. Over 1000 pounds of crawfish will be cooking and boiling on the streets of Downtown Luling. The popular beer garden will open at 11 a.m.
Music will be provided all day by musicians Dr. Zog and the band Ca Va Bien.
“I can’t believe a whole year has gone by since our last Ragin Cajun Throwdown,” said Luling Main Street Director Derek Hall. “We will have plenty of crawfish, lots of vendors, plenty of cold beer and it looks like the temperatures will be in the low 80s. What better way to spend a spring Saturday in Luling.”
