Raises, tax rate proposed at County Commissioners Court

At the August 10 meeting of the Gonzales County Commissioner’s Court, potential raises and a 2020 tax rate were discussed and proposed.

Raises were proposed for Gonzales County jailers by the office of Sheriff Matthew Atkinson, as well as for the county’s attorneys and investigator. An additional position for the Gonzales County Jail was also proposed, to create a role which specifically provides transportation for inmates.

An Elections Administrative position was also proposed by the County Clerk’s office to assist with elections work, a position which has previously existed within the county but phased out. A raise of $3400 for Justice of the Peace Precinct 4 Darryl Becker was also proposed at the meeting.

A tax rate of 0.3958% was also proposed, with a public hearing regarding the tax rate to be held on September 21, 2020.

Other agenda items which were addressed at the meeting include:

  • The approval of minutes from the August 3, Special Called Commissioners Court Meeting.
  • Receipt of Monthly reports from Constables of Precincts 1 and 3.
  • Receipt of the Tax Assessor-Collector’s Monthly Report
  • Commissioners of Gonzales County Emergency Services Fire District #1 Commissioners were appointed for a two-year term.
