Ray Halliburton

Ray Halliburton, of Luling, died June 11, in Audie Murphy VA Hospital in San Antonio. He was born November 14, 1924 to Joseph Boone & Carrie Latham Halliburton in Waelder. He attended school in Waelder . In 1944 he was drafted into the US Army and went to basic training at Camp Walters, in Mineral Wells.  He was Corporal when he went ashore in France in July 1944, one month after D-day.  He was a member of K Company, Third Battalion, Tenth Infantry Regiment, Fifth Infantry “Red Diamond” Divisioin, in Patton’s Third Army.   He fought three months of fierce combat across 500 miles and had risen to staff sergeant and squad leader.  He was captured on December  5, 1944, just outside  Saarbrucken, Germany, when his unit advanced ahead of the others. He was liberated by the Russian Army in 1945 from Lukenwalde. He was a farmer and rancher for most of his working life.

He is survived by 2 sons, Johnie Lee Halliburton, of Luling, and Bobby Ray & Diane Halliburton, of Gonzales, 4 grandchildren, Jeremy & Kari Halliburton, Cody Halliburton & partner, Brittaney Aleman, Joseph Halliburton, & Justin Halliburton,& partner Natalie Powers, &  6 Great Grandchildren, Emily Halliburton, Colton Halliburton, Alexandria Halliburton, Rylan Condel,  Kinli Halliburton, & Cade Halliburton, 2 Sisters, Dorothy Zavidil, of Pasadena, Tx, & June Rose Carley, of Harwood. He is preceded in death by, his parents, 6 sisters, Joyce Jeline Halliburton, Loney Patten , Viola Johnson, Opal Hargrave, Mae Halliburton, & Jewel Halliburton, 3 Brothers, J. B. Halliburton, Johnnie Halliburton, & J. C. Halliburton.

Pall Bearers were Jeremy Halliburton, Cody Halliburton, Joseph Halliburton, Justin Halliburton, Colton Halliburton, & Emily Halliburton. Honorary Pall Bearers were, Lee Baker, Rick Harborth, Bill Gibson, Roy Mendiola, Dan Winters, & Buddy Beck.

Funeral Services were held at 10:00AM Wed June 15th at Maranatha Christian Fellowship, followed by burial in the Waelder City Cemetery.
