Ray of Sunshine: Chamber of Commerce student worker prepares for next chapter

GONZALES — It is going to be a Gray day when Gonzales Chamber of Commerce bids farewell to the much-loved "Ray of Sunshine" that is Regan "Ray Ray" Gray, the chamber's student worker.

"We call her Ray Ray, because she's our little 'Ray of Sunshine,'" Chamber Executive Director Daisy Scheske-Freeman said. "We have been fortunate to have her and we are going to miss her immensely."

Regan spent the 2016-2017 school year with the chamber. After graduation, she stayed on to take in as much as possible before summer turns to fall and she must depart for higher education.

Over the course of the last year Regan has picked up a lot of experience from Scheske, the chamber environment and her student worker opportunity.

"I feel like I am always learning new things," she said. "Working at the chamber has definitely helped me with my communication skills."

Regan noticed during orientation that communication was easier for her and she was able to speak more freely, without hesitation.

She has worked 20-30 hours a week since August of last year, keeping an eye on the chamber gift shop, tracking sales, helping customers and working with Scheske on special events, such as the annual chamber banquet, Cowboy Breakfast and Come and Take It.

"I hope to be home for Come and Take It," she said.

Regan is set to move into an apartment at the end of August and enter classes at University of Texas shortly after. She plans to study Psychology, with a focus on the psychology of law, then pursue a law degree.
