Remote learning success

Posted

Editor's note: Hayley Gordon of Nixon-Smiley CISD recently shared photos of her students involved with remote learning. Here are some of those photos plus the story of the success she's had.

I love the outpouring of love, help, and encouragement from everyone involved. We are truly #BetterTogether.

I did my first FaceTime call with one of my students. My student showed me all the effects we can do during FaceTime. Lots of learning and love. I had another first — I did a Zoom video meeting with a student to go over her list words. I love the teamwork! We are all doing so good and working together. I could not be prouder. I miss my students.

We are using creativity for the students to engage in academic choices across remote board content. These include lining animals (and can foods) up by size, telling how many steps that took, birthday party over picture and videos, writing letters back and forth via pictures, reading together, mud wrestling for PE, creative writing, picking an April student of the month and simply talking with our students over the phone.

I love the teamwork. I am blessed to have a kindergarten team of me plus three amazing individuals who are continually supportive and always help each other out. Our administrative staff have been rock solid through this new process. They are working hard as well and making sure that all of their teachers and staff know we are all appreciated. I could not be prouder to be part of the NSCISD team.

To say I miss my students is an understatement. I truly miss the day-to-day interaction, laughs, jokes, and stories from each of my students.
