MARBLE FALLS — Mason Richter’s second go at the UIL Class 4A boys golf state meet proved to be a tough one as the Gonzales sophomore fell middle of the pack in the competitive contest, totaling 178 strokes at the tournament.

Richter finished the first day with 93 strokes, but then improved on the second day with 85 strokes.

As a freshman, Richter had 81 strokes on his first day in the 2017 state meet and 88 on his second day.

Taking first overall individually was Madisonville’s Sam Bennett who two-day score of 142 strokes was four better than Joey Kirk of the Monahans who finished with 146. Brownwood’s Jeryn Pruitt had 147, good for third.

Monahans took first overall with 615 total strokes. Argyle took second with 626 and Bullard took third at 639.

Richter returns next year as a junior for the Apache golf team.

The golf season isn’t over for Gonzales. Sophomore Kiley Allen participates in the UIL Class 4A girls golf state meet from May 21-22 at the Slick Rock Golf Course at Horseshoe Bay in Marble Falls. The tournament will be Allen’s state debut.
