River expected to rise

GONZALES — It has been a wet week with the arrival of the season's first real cold front. Gonzales residents reached for their jackets while people up in the Hill Country reached for their paddles as rains inundated portions of the Llano and Guadalupe rivers. As a result, Gonzales can expect a rise later this week, but nothing that should be of too much concern, says Guadalupe Blanco River Authority (GBRA) officials.

Canyon Lake reservoir has reached its maximum conservation pool as of Wednesday at noon and is currently at 910.95 feet above mean sea level. This has triggered a water release at the direction of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, who operate the dam.

As of 1 p.m. Wednesday, releases increased to 700 cubic feet per second (cfs) and will continue until Friday at which time an assessment will be made to continue the release of floodwaters or not. Property owners, recreationalists, and other stakeholders should take notice of the changing downstream river flows.
