GONZALES — A Round Rock man was jailed last week after police said a routine traffic stop led to the discovery of marijuana and Xanax in the man’s vehicle.

At 11:15 p.m. Dec. 4, Officer Jonathan Lorton was patrolling the 1100 block of HWY 183 when he saw a Ford Ranger traveling south at a high rate of speed, Capt. Allen Taylor reported. After radar confirmed the truck was exceeding the speed limit, Lorton turned around after the truck and flashed his emergency lights, pulling it over in the Circle G parking lot.

Lorton identified the driver as Michael Anthony Miller, 21, of Round Rock, and asked for permission to search the vehicle.

The officer’s subsequent search led to the discovery of marijuana and some pills identified as Alprazolam (commonly known as Xanax).

Miller was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance penalty group 3. He was taken to Gonzales County Jail.
