Ruben Luna Sr. passed away on Friday, Dec. 8, in Austin, Texas, at the age of 67 after a multi-year battle with heart disease. Ruben was a second generation Gonzales, Texas native and graduated from Gonzales High School in 1968.

Ruben is preceded in death by his parents Canuto Luna Sr. and Mary Munoz Luna, brother Roland Luna, granddaughter Kayden Ramon, and wife Yolanda Trevino Luna. Ruben and Yolanda were married in 1971 in Jacksonville, Texas and had six (6) children, Rebecca Ayala of Waelder and husband Richard, Christina Ramon of Lockhart and husband Jose, Ruben Luna Jr. of Houston, Roland D. Luna Sr. of Lockhart and wife Lori, Lydia Ramon of Gonzales and husband Alex, and Roman Luna of San Antonio. Ruben is also survived by his brother Canuto Luna Jr. of Greenville, Texas, and eleven (11) grandchildren Amanda Walker, Geralyn Ayala, Angelica Ayala, Daniel Navejar Jr., Roland D. Luna Jr., Jaime Gloria Jr., Jose Ramon, Meaghan Luna, Alexis Ramon, Alexandria Ramon, Myla Luna, and five (5) great grandchildren.

Ruben was a long-time residential and commercial painting contractor in Gonzales and the surrounding area. As a younger man, Ruben enjoyed playing softball, coaching little league baseball, fishing, and volunteering with the local LULAC Council. Ruben loved sports and was a San Francisco 49ers fan, and a closet Dallas Cowboys fan. Ruben was a billiards enthusiast and regularly competed in leagues and tournaments with his friends and also loved to play various games of chance.

Services will be held on Thursday, Dec. 14, with a viewing at 9:00am, followed by a rosary at 9:30 a.m., and the Holy Mass at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow in St. James Cemetery. Pallbearers: Richard Ayala Jr., Jose Ramon, Alex Ramon, Joe Ramon, Roland D. Luna Jr, Arturo Cantu. Services are under the care and direction of Harris Funeral Home.
