Ruth M. Peters, 96, passed away peacefully in her sleep Dec. 13, 2018. Ruth Myrtle Gohmert was born Aug. 11, 1922 to the late Reinhold Henry and Linda Diebel Gohmert at home on Noll Rd. in Victoria County.

Ruth graduated from Cuero High School and went on to graduate from Baldwin Business College in Yoakum. She went to work at Foster Field where she met her future husband, Frank Fischer, who was stationed there in the U.S Air Force. They were married in 1942 and had two children, Linda Clare and Jerry Lee. After Frank's discharge, they moved near Cuero where Ruth was employed at City Hall.

After Frank's death, Ruth married Elroy Peters and they moved to Rockport where Ruth was employed by C. P. & L. They retired to Gohmert Rd. in Meyersville. They enjoyed traveling, especially to Germany. Later Ruth's son, Jerry Lee, came to take care of them.

Ruth was preceded in death by husbands, Frank Fischer and Elroy Peters; infant son, Robert Fischer; son, Jerry Lee Fischer; brothers, Charles (Joan) Gohmert and Reuben (Virgie) Gohmert.

Ruth is survived by daughter, Linda Clare Fischer Baros; grandsons, Jimmy (Tabitha) Baros and Charlie (Deena) Baros; great granddaughter, Alanna Baros; great grandson, Hunter Baros; step-great-grandchildren, Hannah, Hayven, Kieran, and Cassidy; and her sister Elizabeth Haun (Mickey) Beard. Ruth is also survived by step-daughters, Lynda (Leroy) Hiller, Nancy (Jerry) Kramer, Sandy (Jerald) Woods; step-son, Kenneth Peters; and three step-grandchildren.

Ruth was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Meyersville where she was a member of Old Stone Church Historical Committee. She was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Veterans of Foreign War and the Travelers Protective Association and the DeWitt County Wildflower Association.

Ruth loved to go to Coushatta to gamble, loved to play bingo, do lottery scratch-offs, and play bridge. She was a warm and loving person who loved wearing hats and the color red. She always wanted to give you a hug, so we want to give her a hug by wearing something red to her services.

Visitation was held Sunday, Dec. 16 from 4-6 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Funeral services were Monday, Dec. 17 at 10 a.m. at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Meyersville.

Pallbearers were Terry Haun, Seth Melancon, Brandon Blain, Lee Haun, Robert Ramos, and Bruce Gohmert. Honorary pallbearers were Tommy Parr and Britton Blain.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church or the Old Stone Church.
