School districts announce cancellations

Due to forecasted severe weather over the next three days, local school districts have announced they will be closing early today and that there will be no school Monday.

Gonzales ISD announced an early release for Friday, Aug. 25. Children that are picked up prior to early release for safety reasons will be counted as an excused absence. Note that GISD’s operations department will tour the district bus routing locations. If any bus route is considered a potential unsafe crossing, parents will be contacted to pick up their child due to safety reasons.

All extra-curricular activities will be canceled from Friday, Aug. 25 through Monday, Aug. 28.

Early Release Dismissal Schedule is as follows:

• Gonzales Primary Academy: Pre-K at 11 a.m., kindergarten at 11:30 a.m., and bus at 11:35
• East Avenue: car at 11:35 a.m. and bus at 11:40 a.m.
• Gonzales Elementary: car at 11:40 a.m. and bus at 11:45 a.m.
• North Avenue: car at 11:45 a.m. and bus at 11:50 a.m.
• Junior High: car at 11:50 a.m. and bus at 11:55 a.m.
• High School: car at 11:55 a.m. and bus at noon.

Gonzales ISD has canceled school for Monday, Aug. 28. All schools and GISD facilities will be closed.

Meanwhile, Nixon-Smiley CISD will close at noon today, while also canceling school for Monday. Waelder ISD will close at 3 p.m. with the buses running 30 minutes early. Parents will need to pick up students 30 minutes early. WISD will also be closed on Monday. The Waelder Lady Cats volleyball game has been canceled.
