Shirley (Smith) Shows

Shirley (Smith) Shows, 78, of Gonzales, Texas died on Thursday, Jan. 26 at her home surrounded by her family and loved ones.

Funeral Services are under the direction of Buffington Funeral Home in Gonzales, Texas and were held at Eastside Baptist Church in Gonzales, Texas on Monday, Jan. 30 at 10:00 am with Reverend Gene Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Woodmen of the World Cemetery in Gonzales, Texas. Visitation was on Sunday, Jan. 29 from 4-8 p.m. at Buffington Funeral Home.

Shirley was born on July 30, 1938 in Gonzales, Texas. She was the daughter of Arthur Thomas and Jessie Ozena (Tharp) Smith. Shirley graduated from high school in 1957, and married her sweetheart, Leroy Shows on July 15, 1957 in Cuero, Texas. She loved cooking and baking. She baked cookies for Pioneer Village for many years and was known as the “Cookie Lady”. Shirley was a big hearted and giving person. She liked talking on the phone with family and friends to check on them and to see if they were in need of anything. Shirley was a supporter of Relay for Life. She was a member of Eastside Baptist Church for many years. Shirley worked at Walmart for 28 years as a Customer Service Representative.

Shirley is survived by one brother, Arthur Thomas Smith, Jr. and his wife, Sophie, of Stafford, Texas, two sisters, Peggy Wright of Abilene, Texas, and Linda Leverett and her husband, Tom, of Cleburn, Texas. Special Family Members include her nephew, Lloyd Copeland and his wife, Karon, of Cuero, Texas, her neice, Betty Perez and her husband, George, of Gonzales, Texas, Stephanie Scaff and her husband, Cody, of Killeen, Texas, Wesley Bolech and his wife, Katy, of Leander, Texas, Robbie Watson of Marquez, Texas and many other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 48 years, Leroy Shows, her parents, Arthur and Jessie Smith, two sisters, Lois Copeland and Mary Phillips, one brother, Lloyd Smith, and one brother-in-law, Reverend Bill Wright.

Her pallbearers are: Wes Bolech, Kevin Leverett, Alan Watson, Kevin Watson, Matthew Watson, and Mike Wright. Honorary pallbearers are: Robert Copeland, Russell Copeland, Tom Leverett, Rial Rolfe, and Pat Watkins.
