Smiley man charged with sexual assault

GONZALES – A Smiley man faces criminal charges after police said he sexually assaulted a local woman.

Capt. Allen Taylor reported that at 4:51 p.m. March 18, Officer Victor Izaguirre was dispatched to the 1700 block of Seydler St. in progress. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with the victim, who said a man identified as Danny Garza, 50, of Smiley, had sexually assaulted her. The victim said during the altercation Garza had choked her, and officers found marks on her throat which supported her claims.

“The victim was able to get away from Garza, at which time he left the scene,” Taylor said.

Later that day police obtained a felony warrant for aggravated sexual assault for Garza. Investigator Jason Montoya, along with sheriff's deputies, located Garza at his residence in Smiley and arrested him, Taylor said.

Garza was taken to Gonzales County Jail and charged with aggravated sexual assault.
