Apaches run-ruled

The Gonzales Apaches lost 10-0 against La Vernia last Friday, April 5. Frank Benes went 1-for-2 while Larry Gomez went 1-for-1 in their game against the Bears. The Apaches combined for 11 strikeouts on 19 plate appearances. Benes took the lost, pitching 2.2 innings, giving up five hits, nine walks, nine runs, five of which were earned. Carson Gayton pitched 1.1 innings, allowing three hits, and one earned run. Gonzales (0-6) takes on Pleasanton (2-4) on Friday, with first pitch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Gonzales travels to Navarro (4-2) on Tuesday, April 16.

Gonzales bounces back with 10-run win

It took six innings to do so, but the Gonzales Lady Apaches were able to defeat the Poteet Aggies 13-3 to gain their second win of the district season. Gonzales (2-8) ends their season with a game at Pleasanton (6-4) on Friday, then a home game against SA Brooks Academy (0-11) on Tuesday, April 16.

Mustangs split games, move to 3-3 in district

Nixon-Smiley lost 8-0 to Luling last Friday. The Mustangs blew out Karnes City 11-1 on Tuesday in five innings to move to 3-3. They host Yoakum (6-0) on Friday with first pitch scheduled at 7 p.m. The Mustangs (3-3) then travel to Stockdale (1-5) to play their rivals.

Luling stays in 3rd in district

Luling’s Kross Conley pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits and three walks in his seven innings of play while striking out 11 in route to an 8-0 win over the Nixon-Smiley Mustangs. The Eagles (4-2) then lost 6-1 on Tuesday to Yoakum who are currently unbeaten in District 27-3A.

The Eagles travel to Poth (5-1) on Friday before hosting Karnes City (0-6) on Tuesday.

Nixon-Smiley, Luling fighting for fourth

The Nixon-Smiley Lady Mustangs blew out Luling 29-6 last Friday to force a fourth-place tie. Both teams lost Tuesday, with Nixon-Smiley losing 17-2 to Karnes City and Luling losing 22-5 to Yoakum. 

Nixon-Smiley hosts Yoakum Friday before traveling to Stockdale on Tuesday. Their final game in district will be Thursday, April 18 against Poth.

Luling travels to Poth on Friday, hosts Karnes City on Tuesday and travels to Stockdale on Thursday, April 18.

Of their final three games, both Nixon-Smiley and Luling have only beaten Stockdale in district play.
