Lady Cardinals win district title

Shiner St. Paul knocked off Hallettsville Sacred Heart in the TAPPS District 6 – Div. IV finale to clinch the district championship. The Lady Cardinals head to the playoffs as the number one seed, hosting a game next Tuesday, May 7 against Temple Holy Trinity Catholic.

Regional athletes

Multiple Gonzales County area athletes competed at their respective meets, with Waelder’s Bre Montgomery, Miguel Morales and Jose Perez ending their track and field season at the Region IV-1A meet.

Shiner’s Zane Rhodes and Donyai Taylor took third in their respective events at the Region IV-2A meet. The Lady Comanches 4x100-meter relay and 4x200-meter relay teams took third while the boys 4x100-meter relay team took first and the 4x200-meter relay team took second in their races.

Luling’s Thomas Roberts took third in the 800-meter run in the Region IV-3A meet.

Apache football team announces parent meeting

There will be an informative parent meeting in the High School cafeteria on Tuesday, May 14 at 6 p.m. This meeting will cover the football program expectations, introduction of new staff members, discussion on the role of the booster club, new member participation, May/June/July calendars, 7-on-7 information, and initial dates for August two-a-day football camp. Please attend, we have a lot to discuss.

Playoff schedule announced

The playoffs begin for area teams this week, as Nixon-Smiley takes on Hallettsville at Cuero on Thursday, with Game 1 at 7 p.m. Game 2 is Saturday at 1 p.m., with Game 3 (if necessary) to follow right after.

Luling plays Altair Rice at Schulenburg on Thursday with Game 1 at 5 p.m. and Game 2 is 30 minutes after. Games  3 (if necessary) is scheduled for  Friday at 6 p.m.

Shiner baseball plays Thursday vs. Holland at Bastrop High at 7 p.m. Game 2 is Friday at 5 p.m. with Game 3 (if necessary) to follow.

Shiner softball plays against Sabine Pass on Thursday at Tomball Memorial for Game 1. Game 2 will follow Game 1 with Game 3 (if needed) on Saturday.
