Apaches open soccer season with 3-1 scrimmage victory

The Gonzales boys soccer team opened their season with a 3-1 scrimmage victory over Giddings last Friday, Dec. 13. Goals scored were by Adrian Rodriguez, Carlos Mendoza and Daniel Cruz.

The Apaches host a tournament from Jan. 2-4.

Lady Apaches named to all-state academic team

Two Lady Apaches were named to the academic all-state volleyball team last week. Rebekah Baker and Rachel Staggs, both seniors, were listed as honorees by the Texas Girls Coaches Associations.

Wildcats go unbeaten in Flatonia tournament

The Waelder Wildcats went unbeaten, winning all four games in the Flatonia Tournament last week. The boys team beat Rice Consal 63-39 and Hallettsville 72-30 on the first day, beat Port Aransas 55-42 and Ganado 67-36 on the second day, then knocked off Nordheim 46-31 and Flatonia 68-53 to become tournament champions. The Wildcats host Prairie Lea on Friday with tipoff scheduled at 6:15 p.m.

Mustangs lose tough games at Moulton tournament

The Nixon-Smiley Mustangs faced tough opponents at the Moulton tournament, losing to Moulton 62-34 and Cuero 45-21 on Thursday, then losing to Luling 46-36 and Hallettsville 71-37 on Friday. The Mustangs followed up the tournament with a home non-district loss against New Braunfels John Paul II 47-33. The Mustangs host Kenedy on Friday before the holiday break, then turn around and host a tournament next weekend.

Lady Apaches lose in low-scoring bout

The Gonzales Lady Apaches lost 37-27 on the road against Universal City Randolph on Tuesday. Gonzales travels to La Vernia this Friday before the holiday break.

Apaches lose at home

The Gonzales Apaches lost 72-56 at home against Wimberley. The Apaches travel to Pettus for a game on Thursday, then travel to Goliad next weekend for a tournament after Christmas.

Lady Mustangs lose at home

The Nixon-Smiley Lady Mustangs lost 44-26 at home against Marion on Tuesday. They host Hallettsville Sacred Heart on Thursday for a 6:15 p.m. game before hosting a tournament the following weekend after Christmas.

Lady Cats open district with loss

The Waelder Lady Wildcats opened district with a 58-5 road loss against Dime Box. Waelder hosts Prairie Lea on Friday with a 5 p.m. tipoff before the holiday break. They then travel to Weimar for a tournament after Christmas.

Luling Eagles lose close on the road

The Luling Eagles lost 57-46 against Marion on Tuesday. The Eagles travel to Navarro for a tournament this weekend before going on holiday break. Their next game is a home tilt against San Antonio Cole on Monday, Dec. 30, with tipoff scheduled at 1 p.m.

Comanches overwhelm Austwell-Tivoli

The Shiner Comanches beat Austwell-Tivoli at home 72-20 on Monday. They travel to Falls City this weekend for a tournament before the holiday break. Their next game after the tournament is on Tuesday, Dec. 31 against Fayetteville at home, with tipoff set at 1:15 p.m.

Lady Comanches lose on the road

The Shiner Lady Comanches lost 47-34 on the road against Somerville on Tuesday. They travel to Falls City this weekend for a tournament before going on holiday break.
