Cardinals end season on three-point loss

Shiner St. Paul ended their season in the first round of playoffs 71-68 against Conroe Covenant Christian. The Cardinals were TAPPS District 5-2A champions, unbeaten at 6-0.

Area-round bound

The Luling Eagles boys basketball team won their bi-district game against Edna 79-46 on Tuesday night in Cuero. The bi-district champs take on #6 San Antonio Cole, a team that tied for first in District 26-3A with #4 Marion and #5 UC Randolph. SA Cole has just five losses all season. Details on the game were unavailable before press time.

Lady Eagles’ season ends in the area

The Luling Lady Eagles basketball season ended in the area round last Friday as they lost 69-55 to #15 Lago Vista. Luling finished District 27-3A as the third seed behind #7 Poth and #12 Karnes City. Karnes City lost to Lago Vista while Poth meets George West in the Region IV-3A semifinals.

Lady Apaches comeback victory

The Gonzales Lady Apaches rallied from behind with a nine-run seventh inning against Edna, winning the game 12-7. Alexis Martinez and Jill Guerra pitched the first four innings, with Ashleigh Luensmann recording the win, according to coaches. Gonzales travels to Ingleside on Thursday for a three-day tournament. The Lady Apaches come off a third-place finish in the gold bracket from last weekend’s Giddings tournament.

Mustangs dropped in early non-district bout

Nixon-Smiley lost 3-1 in an early baseball game on Monday to Hallettsville Sacred Heart. The Mustangs travel to Goliad for a double header this Friday, with the first game scheduled at 4 p.m.
