Lady Eagles finish with share of district title, Nixon-Smiley ends district winless
The Luling Lady Eagles finished the district season with a 9-1 record, tying Poth up top of District 27-3A as the champions. Luling defeated Stockdale 76-27 last Friday before knocking off Nixon-Smiley 61-20 on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Nixon-Smiley Lady Mustangs finished the district season without a win, losing to Poth 73-40 last Friday.
Luling and Poth share the district title. Information on a play-in game to determine the number one seed wasn’t available before press time.
Luling remains unbeaten, Nixon-Smiley losing streak extends
The Nixon-Smiley Mustangs lost 51-37 to the Luling Eagles, who remain unbeaten in District 27-3A. The Mustangs also lost 62-41 to Poth last Friday while the Eagles beat Stockdale 82-45.
Nixon-Smiley travels to Karnes City on Friday while Luling hosts Yoakum. Both teams end district play next Tuesday when Nixon-Smiley hosts Yoakum and Luling travels to Poth. All games are scheduled to start at 7:45 p.m.
District champs face first playoff opponent
The district champion Shiner St. Paul Lady Cardinals open playoffs against Alpha Omega at home next Tuesday, Feb. 18. Tipoff for the game is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Waelder to fight for outright district title next week
After defeating both Fayetteville last Friday and McDade on Tuesday, the Waelder Wildcats have a shot at a clean district record when they take on Dime Box next Tuesday for their final game before the playoffs. The Wildcats won their first matchup against Dime Box 72-57 at home. Tuesday’s game on the road is scheduled for 5 p.m.
