Apaches drop to 8-1-1 after a draw, loss

Gonzales went to 8-1-1 overall this season, first coming away with a 2-2 draw against Taylor on Friday, Jan. 18. Anthony Veliz and Daniel Cruz each came away with a goal while Jorge Cervantes had an assist. The team then lost 5-4 against the Burbank Bulldogs on Tuesday, with Veliz scoring two goals and an assist, Adrian Rodriguez with one goal and an assist and Sergio Velazquez with one goal. The Apaches host the Sam Houston High School Hurricanes on Friday before traveling to Austin to take on Eastside on Tuesday, Jan. 29.

Luling drops Nixon-Smiley on the road

The Luling Lady Eagles traveled to Nixon, beating the Nixon-Smiley Lady Mustangs 60-28 in District 27-3A basketball. Aja Holmes led Luling in scoring with 15 points, adding two assists, six rebounds, six steals and six blocks to the stat sheet. Taylin Anderson had a double-double with 14 points, 13 rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block. The Lady Eagles then defeated Yoakum on Tuesday 52-23 to move to 4-2 in 27-3A. Nixon-Smiley lost to state-ranked Karnes City 57-24, dropping down to 1-5. Luling travels to Poth on Friday before hosting Karnes City next Tuesday, Jan. 29. Nixon-Smiley hosts Yoakum on Friday before traveling to Stockdale on Tuesday, Jan. 29.

Eagles stay unbeaten in District 27-3A, Nixon-Smiley in search of win

Luling remain unbeaten in District 27-3A after beating Nixon-Smiley 65-30 on the road on Friday, Jan. 18. The Eagles went on to defeat Yoakum on Tuesday while the Mustangs lost 53-45 to Karnes City. Luling travels to Poth on Friday before hosting Karnes City next Tuesday, Jan. 29. Nixon-Smiley hosts Yoakum on Friday before traveling to Stockdale on Tuesday, Jan. 29.

Wildcats winless in district

Waelder lost 58-13 on the road against Dime Box in girls District 30-1A basketball. The Lady Wildcats then hosted Prairie Lea on Tuesday, losing 76-9. Waelder travels to take on Round Top-Carmine before hosting Moulton on Tuesday, Jan. 29.

The Waelder boys basketball team lost their second district game of the season, losing 61-47 to Dime Box on Friday, Jan. 18. Waelder travels to take on Round Top-Carmine before hosting Moulton on Tuesday, Jan. 29.
