New Gonzales head baseball coach hired

Gonzales Athletic Director Mike Waldie announced on Twitter the hiring of Arturo Velasquez as the Gonzales Apaches new head baseball coach. In the release, Velasquez, who has had over 20 years of coaching, said he is “very humbled to start a new chapter of development and long lasting memories for the community of Gonzales.”

 

Apaches athletic program announces football dates

Starting July 29, equipment checkout will occur for the high school athletes. The following are the times checkout will take place:

  • Seniors: Monday, July 29 from 1-3 p.m.
  • Juniors: Tuesday, July 30 from 1-3 p.m.
  • Sophomores: Wednesday, July 31 from 1-3 p.m.
  • Freshmen: Thursday, Aug. 1 at 11:30 a.m. immediately following youth football camp.

Aug. 5 is the first day of UIL-allowed practice. All incoming 9th - 12th grade football players report to the fieldhouse at 6:15 a.m. The first five days are a UIL acclimatization period. All athletes will be done for the day at 11:30 a.m.

From Aug. 5-9, all high school football players report at 6:15 a.m. and will finish for the day around 11:30 a.m. Coaches ask that athletes please have a good breakfast before arrival. Fruit, snacks and plenty of fluids will be included throughout the breaks. Proper pre-hydration and meals are the key to success.

On Aug. 10, all high school football players report at 6:15 a.m., where they will have meetings and uniform checkout for picture/media day. The first intra-squad scrimmage will begin after pictures at approximately 9:30 a.m. at the practice field at Gonzales High. Picture forms will be sent home prior with all instructions for the student-athletes and payment procedures.

Season tickets available

Apache football season ticket holders from 2019 are now able to pick up their season tickets that they had last year. You will have until 4 p.m. on Aug. 9 to get your tickets. All tickets not picked up will be sold to the public starting Aug. 12.

The price of tickets will be $7 per game and $35 for all five home games. This year’s tickets may be picked up at the Apache Fieldhouse and tickets can be purchased from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. noon and 1-4 p.m., Monday through Friday. If you do to wish to purchase your tickets, please call Teresa Clack at 672-6641.

If you did not inform the office by 4 p.m. on Aug. 9, it will be understood that you do not want your tickets. If for some reason you cannot get to the Fieldhouse to pick up your tickets, please call and make arrangements to get them at a later date. If you are not a season ticket holder but would like to purchase season tickets, the tickets will be available starting Aug. 12 and the sale of season tickets will end at noon on Aug. 23.

No season tickets can be sold after tickets go on sale at 8 a.m. Aug. 26 for the first game on Aug. 30.

‘Apache nation’ shirts to be sold at the Fieldhouse

The Gonzales Apaches athletic program will be selling “Bleacher Creature” shirts with the Gonzales logo at the Fieldhouse starting June 10 for $5 for kids kindergarten – sixth grade. A T-shirt purchase will also get you free admission to all home games and the chance to run out the tunnel during pre-game before the football team takes the field. Meet the Cardinals set for Aug. 2

The Shiner St. Paul Cardinals athletic program will be hosting a “Meet the Cardinal” night at the KC Hall on Aug. 2 from 5-8:30 p.m. Benny Boyd is once again providing test drives. The dealership will donate up to $5,000 to the program if they reach the goal of 250 test drives. Come out and support the St. Paul Cardinals athletic program.
