Shiner St. Paul baseball, softball advances

There are more games to be played for Shiner St. Paul as both the baseball and softball teams advanced in their respective tournament.

Tied 3-3 headed to the bottom of the sixth, the Cardinals baseball team knocked off Huntsville Alpha Omega by scoring two runs in that inning and holding the lead in the seventh to win 5-3, advancing to the state tournament. The Cardinals take on Lake Jackson Brazosport Christian on Friday at Crosby High School with first pitch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. If they win, they’ll play in the championship game on Saturday, with first pitch scheduled at 11 a.m.

Meanwhile, the Lady Cardinals are headed to the state championship game after defeating their rivals, Hallettsville Sacred Heart, 11-2 on Wednesday. St. Paul will play Round Rock Concordia Thursday, May 16 at 10 a.m. for the TAPPS Division IV state championship.

Richter to compete at state golf meet

Gonzales’ Mason Richter will be competing at the UIL Class 4A State Golf tournament, teeing off May 20 at 8:50 a.m. He’s paired with Robinson’s Cade Allison and Van’s Austin Mitchell. This will be Richter’s third appearance at the state golf meet.
