George West overwhelms Nixon-Smiley

The Nixon-Smiley Mustangs (1-1) were overwhelmed last Friday, losing 50-7 against George West (2-0).

The Mustangs lost three fumbles while quarterback Xavier Arias was sacked twice. Arias led the team in rushing with 17 attempts for 136 yards and a score, including an 83-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Jesse Riojas added 16 carries for 35 yards while Chris Brown had four rushes for 27 yards.

The Mustangs take on Hallettsville Sacred Heart (1-1) on the road Friday, Sept. 13, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Last season, the Indians beat Nixon-Smiley 27-7.

Comanches expand winning streak

State-ranked Shiner (2-0) took down Vanderbilt Industrial 34-14. The Comanches travel to Burton (2-0) to face an unbeaten Panthers team. Last season, Shiner had the advantage, beating the Panthers 63-32.

Luling in search of a win

The Luling Eagles (0-2) were blown out by Llano last Friday in a 59-14 loss. The Eagles travel to Schulenburg on Friday to face the Shorthorns (1-1), with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Last season, Schulenburg blanked Luling with a score of 38-0.

Mistakes cost Cardinals

Shiner St. Paul (1-1) had too many turnovers last Friday in their 33-14 lost against Victoria St. Joseph. Zak Johnson led the team in rushing with 142 yards and two touchdowns on 34 carries. Noeh Boedeker added 16 carries for 65 yards. Kai Giese rushed six times for 14 yards and completed 2-of-9 passes for 23 yards and two interceptions.

The Cardinals take on Austin Saints in a homecoming game Friday with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Lady Wildcats lose in three

Waelder lost in three sets to Brazos on the road Tuesday. The Lady Wildcats host a home game on Friday, scheduled to start at 5 p.m.

Gonzales loses in close 5-set match

The Gonzales Lady Apaches traveled to Taylor to take on the Ducks in a non-district game. Taylor would win in five sets, (15-25, 25-23, 20-25, 25-15, 15-9). Gonzales is on a bye on Friday before they begin district play on the road Tuesday, Sept. 17 at La Vernia. Game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.

Lady Mustangs sweep SA Cole

The Nixon-Smiley Lady Mustangs swept San Antonio Cole on the road last Friday in three sets. The Lady Mustangs host Smithville for a non-district game on Friday, scheduled at 5 p.m. before a bye on Tuesday.
