Statewide tax-free weekend returns Friday

Texas’ annual sales tax holiday returns Friday, Aug. 9 and goes through midnight Sunday, Aug. 11. Most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks—that are sold for less than $100—by businesses that are either Texas-based or operate in the state are tax free during the event.

“As Texas families begin the process of replacing their beach towels with lunch boxes, the sales tax holiday is the perfect opportunity to save some money on supplies families need before the school bell rings,” Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar said via press release. “As a father of three, I know how these expenses can add up.”

Shoppers should expect to save $8 for every $100 spent during the event. For a full list of qualifying items visit TexasTaxHoliday.org.
