Teen group hosting donation drive for kids in need

The Gonzales Public Library Teen Action Group is hosting a donation drive until March 31 to benefit the children of the Legacy Ranch Kids foster care and adoption agency. The group is seeking gift cards to H-E-B, Walmart and other retailers; clothes and shoes of all sizes; twin size blankets, sheets and comforters; board games and other toys and backpacks and school supplies. Monetary donations are also welcomed.

“We have an active teen action group that they kind of noticed a need at school for some of the Legacy Ranch kids; just basic things that they needed,” Library Director Caroline Helms said. “So, we contacted Legacy Ranch to see if there’s something we can do as the teen action group and the library to help fill some of those needs, and this is some of the things they said they could use.”

Helms mentioned while everything is needed, backpacks and jackets are especially important. Those interested can stop by Robert Lee Brothers Jr. Memorial Library located at 301 Saint Joseph St. in Gonzales to drop off supplies. Supplies can be dropped off in designated donation boxes located near the front of the library or with the front desk.

The Teen Action Group is a collective of teen volunteers in 7th-12th grade that plan outreach programs for the community. This is the first year the group has put together a donation drive for Legacy Ranch. The group meets once a month during the school year at the library.
