Texas Junior High state rodeo takes over J.B. Wells Arena

GONZALES — Texas Junior High School Rodeo Association is back in Gonzales as cowboys and cowboys from all around the state compete in the annual state meet at J.B. Wells Arena.

Two athletes will be representing Gonzales County at the TJHSRA state rodeo next week.

Buck Garza of Gonzales will be performing in team roping with Samuel Mendoza of Carrizo Springs on Monday morning and Friday night.

Meanwhile, Waelder’s Kori Bigbee will be competing in two events. On Wednesday morning and night, Bigbee will be performing in barrels. On Tuesday night and Thursday morning, Bigbee will team up with Rosanky’s Nick Young in ribbon roping.

The order of events set for the state finals rodeo include pole bending, chute dogging, tiedown, girls’ breakaway, boys’ breakaway, girls’ goat tying, boys’ goat tying, barrel racing, team roping and finally ribbon roping.

Gates open Friday for trailer and horses, though contestant check in begins on Saturday, May 26. Crowning of the 2018 princess will take place on Sunday, May 27 while the first day of performances begin Monday, May 28.

The short go performance is on Saturday, June 2, with a champions dinner at the Expo Center.
