SMILEY — A Stockdale man was arrested after authorities said he stole a $10,000 trailer from a residence and later sold it to someone in Bexar County.

On April 26, a bumper-pull travel trailer was reported to have been stolen from a residence in the 400 block of Roberts St., City Marshal Mark Soto reported.

Soto said that over a period of time several leads were obtained, and that on July 18 he received information from Wilson County authorities. The investigation led to the discovery of the trailer in southern Bexar County. The people in possession informed Soto that they had purchased the trailer from a man named Jonerik Pena, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. During an in-custody interview on Aug. 1, Pena confessed to stealing the trailer, Soto said.

“[Pena] was already wanted in Wilson County on an unrelated charge, so I went to Wilson County Jail to interview him,” Soto noted. “There he confessed to the theft.”

Pena, 33, of Stockdale, is charged with theft $2,500 to $30,000 - a state jail felony.

Soto said the investigation of the theft is still in progress, and that more arrests may be made in connection with the theft.
