TYRA finals begin today

GONZALES — The rodeo is back in town and taking over JB Wells Arena, this time by the Texas Youth Rodeo Association (TYRA).

Today begins the TYRA finals as six of the finest cowboys and cowgirls will be representing Gonzales County.

Gonzales’ Sadie Thibodeaux will be the busiest, taking on scheduled six events in the junior age group. Thibodeaux currently leads the all-around in junior girls. All her events will be on Wednesday including cloverleaf, figure 8, girls’ breakaway, goat tying, poles and ribbon roping with Rosanky’s Weston Willhelm.

Another busy cowgirl is Audrey Thibodeaux who is currently 11th in the sub junior girls all-around. She will take on team roping with Rosanky’s Nick Young today then take on figure 8, poles and cloverleaf on Wednesday.

Gonzales’ Taylor Glass, 28th in senior girls all-around, will compete on Tuesday in goat tying and Wednesday in ribbon roping with Smithville’s Janson Dawson.

Gonzales’ final competitor is Kameron Glass, 32nd in senior boys all-around. He will take on bull riding on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Harwood has two competitors representing the town.

Kenzie Stamps has all Tuesday performances, competing in sub junior figure 8, poles and cloverleaf. Stamps is currently 19th in the all-around.

Jasper Jeffrey will compete in the senior boys’ age group, taking on tiedown and ribbon roping with Atascosa’s Sarah Haby.
