The University Interscholastic League (UIL) released the conference cutoff numbers and preliminary enrollment figures for the 2018-2020 reclassification and realignment Wednesday morning, effectively moving Gonzales back up to 4A Division I for football.
UIL set the cutoff for 4A Division II at 505-789 and 4A Division I at 790-1149. With Gonzales reporting an enrollment number of 793, the Apaches will be playing football in 4ADI yet again.
Assuming no appeal is made, Gonzales will be placed in a completely different district than this past realignment, as Giddings, Caldwell, La Grange and Smithville will remain in 4A Division II while Columbus drops down to 3A Division I.
The Apaches will be going another realignment without being placed in a district with their rivals, the Cuero Gobblers, as their neighbors down south will remain in 4A Division II.
Nixon-Smiley will remain in 3A Division II with their enrollment reported at 305.
The Waelder Wildcats will remain in Class 1A with their enrollment number set at 67
The next step for schools will be appealing numbers, if need be, before UIL begins creating the competition districts with the new enrollment cutoffs.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Waelder was previously listed to have an enrollment number of 320. However, the "clerical error", as stated by officials, has been fixed, and the Wildcats will remain in Class 1A.
