Veliz named District 29-4A MVP

Regional semifinalists name many to all district team


Unbeaten in district, the Gonzales Apaches dominated their District 29-4A opponents, outscoring their three opponents by 25 goals this season. Their success led to another district championship as well as many other individual honors.

Anthony Veliz was named the district’s overall MVP. Veliz was the team’s leading scorer.

Named co-MVP defender was Julian Matamoros, who shared honors with Yoakum’s David Ovledo. Luis Hernandez was named co-MVP goalkeeper with Pleasanton’s Preston Thompson.

Named to the first team were Veliz, Matamoros, Hernandez, Antonio Hernandez and Luis Leija. Named to the second team were Jorge Cervantes Hervey Mata and Adrian Rodriguez. Kenneth Cavit, Daniel Cruz, Richard Grim, Carlos Mendoza, Greg Ross and Edgar Castillo-Zuniga.

Quinn Atkinson and Antonio Hernandez were both named to the academic all-district team.
