Victoria College – Gonzales gives nursing students new technology, introduces 'Anatomage'

GONZALES — In terms of educational tools, Victoria Collage – Gonzales is right at the top. The center has been working with a new cutting-edge technology recently, having introduced a new technology this year, called the 'Anatomage Table'.
The Anatomage Table is an interactive autopsy table, which allows students to study the many systems of the human body – one layer at a time.
According to Anatomage, creators of the Anatomage Table, the table is the most technologically advanced anatomy visualization system for anatomy education and is being adopted by many of the world's leading medical schools and institutions.
The Anatomage Table starts up, like any computer, bringing up a home screen. After a few touch-screen selections the student is presented with a full-size digital cadaver, which can be rolled to all sides for examination.
Students are introduced to individual structures of the human anatomy as they are reconstructed before their eyes in 3D, resulting in an accurate anatomy experience.
The Anatomage Table program is built in layers, from radiologic and high-tech cross section photography, so students can manipulate and look at different views of the digital cadaver, including the entire integumentary, muscular, skeletal, circulatory, nervous, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive, excretory, renal, reproductive and endocrine systems, all dissectible in 3D.
Jackie Mikesh, VC Gonzales Center manager, said learning tools like the Anatomage Table keep subject matter fresh and interesting.
"We are glad to have this technology here in Gonzales," Mikesh said. "The Anatomage Table allows for exploration and learning of human anatomy beyond what any cadaver could offer."
The Anatomage Table is just one of the many new offerings at VCG. The center has also recently put in a Microbiology Lab, a Workforce Training Center and a Resource/Study Lab.
The table was part of a donation to Victoria College by the MG and Lillie A. Johnson Foundation. The main campus got three tables and VCG got one.
Mikesh said there is more to come in 2017. The center hopes to begin construction on a technologically-advanced nursing lab, with nursing simulator mannequins and cubicles.
