HALLETTSVILLE — Waelder came home with multiple medals at the area meet as they send four individuals and their 4x100-meter boys relay to the Region IV-1A track and field meet in hopes of qualifying for state.

Malorie Puente took first in shot put, throwing 35-1 7/8. Brejhai Montgomery placed third in shot put. Both athletes advance to the regional meet.

Aquria Fields placed fourth in the 100-meter and third in the 200-meter race, advancing to the regional meet in both events. Fields also placed fifth in high jump.

Despite one bad handoff, according to Athletic Director Martha Zuniga, the boys 4x100-meter relay team of Josh Jones-Miller, Carlos Reyes, Isaiah Ewing and Colby Thorne will advance to the regional meet, taking second place in area.

Jones-Miller also placed third in the 100-meter dash, which advances him to next meet. Thorne placed fifth in the same race.

Meanwhile, John Aguilar took fifth in the 1600-meter run, while Miguel Morales took sixth in the 1600-meter and 3200-meter run.

“Overall, it was a great day,” Zuniga said of the track athletes. “I’m very proud of our kiddos for fighting a great fight.”

The Region IV-1A track and field meet is set for this weekend, April 27-28, at Bowers Stadium, Sam Houston State University in Huntsville.
