Waelder Wildcat finishes career at state track meet

AUSTIN — Senior Wildcat Tracy Moore traveled to Austin to the Mike A. Myers Stadium for the UIL State Track and Field meet on Friday to compete in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. Moore took fifth in the 100 and ninth in the 200 race.

Last season, Moore competed in the state track meet for the first time in his high school career. He placed eighth at that meet.

This season, he competed for the first time at the state level in the 100-meter and 200-meter. In the 100-meter, Moore finished in fifth with a time of 11.30 seconds. Taking first was Rule’s Chase Thompson, a sophomore, with a time of 11.09. Jonesboro’s Robert Robuck placed second at 11.12 and Water Valley’s Tyler Simmons took bronze at 11.17. The state conference record survived another year, set in 2015 by Oscar Mathis of Paducah who ran a 10.88. Greenville’s Henry Neal set a state and national record of 10.15 seconds in 1990.

In the 200-meter, Moore placed ninth with his time of 23.74 seconds. Happy’s Zachary Adee set a Conference 1A record of 22.23 seconds to take first place. The previous record was set in 2014 by Fayetteville’s Logan Stoelke who finished in 22.42 seconds. Taking second was Jonesboro’s Robert Robuck at 22.56 seconds and third was Water Valley’s Jeremy Jackson at 22.70 seconds.
