After starting the year unranked by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC), the Waelder Wildcats are now ranked 16th in Class 1A after making their debut at 25 last week.

The Wildcats traveled to Flatonia last weekend four a three-day tournament, winning the whole thing by going unbeaten in their six games played.

Also ranked are Dime Box at 17 and Moulton at 18. Both teams are district opponents.

Two other area teams that are ranked are the Shiner St. Paul boys and girls basketball teams. The boys are eighth in 2A Private Schools while the girls are ranked fourth.

Other interesting rankings include Pleasanton ranked 17th, who compete in District 30-4A with Gonzales. Flatonia and Yorktown, who compete with Shiner in District 29-2A, are ranked 15th and 25th, respectively.

On the girls side, Pleasanton is ranked 22nd and Cuero is ranked 23rd. They both compete with Gonzales in District 30-4A. Poth is ranked sixth in Class 3A. They compete with Nixon-Smiley in District 27-3A. Moulton, Waelder’s rival, is ranked 8th in Class 1A.

The TABC polls are released every Monday morning.
