PFLUGERVILLE — Alejandro “Alex” Ontiveros represented Waelder at the UIL Region IV-1A golf tournament, playing at the Blackhawk Golf Course in Pflugerville in a two-day meet from April 23-24.

The senior golfer finished with 220 strokes, placing him 36th among the 55-person tournament. Ontiveros had 107 strokes on the first day and 113 on the second day.

"Alex played remarkably well," Athletic Director Martha Zuniga said. "He did his best and hung in there. I was very proud on how he did and I was amazed that he cut his score down by 20 strokes."

Leading the way in the region was Garrett Arnett of D’hanis, who scored 166. Moulton’s Conner Blahuta took second with 170 while Spurger’s Tyler Dozier took third at 176.

"[Ontiveros] has a great respect for his opponents and himself and it's something amazing to see," Zuniga added. "If he had more time to practice there would be no doubt in my mind he would have been at the top of the list. Alex did amazing and I am very proud of him and his efforts."
