Wayne Knox Lassig, 79, of Austin, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2019. Wayne was born January 18, 1940 in Waelder, Texas to Beatrice and Alfred Lassig. He married Audrey Helen Bundick on July 17, 1965 in Kyle, Texas. Wayne graduated from Durham School of Business and was a member of the Austin Saengerrunde.

Wayne grew up on a farm, so his passion for the outdoors doesn’t come as a surprise. He had a huge garden that he was proud of, but he was most passionate about his cows. He would spend much of his time “down home” in Gonzales working his cattle. Again, Wayne loved the outdoors, he enjoyed jogging throughout his neighborhood, maintaining his well-kept lawns (which everyone knew never to step foot on). He also enjoyed taking his family to the beach for some sun and fun. Wayne was known as a prankster and had a great sense of humor. Although he was strict with his children during their childhood, they always knew he was fully supportive of them and they could count on him for anything they needed.

Wayne and Helen purchased their dream home in 1969 and began raising their family. Although they were husband and wife, they remained best friends as well. They dearly enjoyed going dancing and out to eat with each other as if they were still dating.

Wayne was a lifelong UT Longhorn fan; he maintained season tickets for 52 years. When he wasn’t physically attending a game, he was watching various sports games on the television. He was a fan of all sports. He retired from his accountant position at TEA after 30 years of service in ‘95.

Wayne Knox Lassig is survived by his adoring wife of almost 54 years, Helen Lassig of Austin, daughter, Stacy Holley and husband Adam of Austin, son, Larry Lassig and wife Amber of Gonzales, sisters, JoAnn Lapetina of Huntsville, Patsy Holmes and husband Bobby of Seguin, Carolyn Lassig of Gonzales, brother James Lassig and wife Mona of Gonzales, and his one and only grandson, Andrew Lassig-Holley, who was his absolute pride and joy. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 22, 2019 in Odd Fellows Cemetery of Gonzales with Johnnie Fogle officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Gonzales Breakfast Lions. Friends may leave their condolences by visiting www.seydlerhillfuneralhome.com. Services are under the care and direction of Seydler-Hill Funeral Home.
