William August “Bill” Lott, 91, of Leesville, passed away Monday, April 17. He was born February 12, 1926, at the family home in Leesville, Texas, to Lawrence August and Elizabeth Jane Callaway Lott. He was the fifth of seven children with four older sisters and two younger brothers. He spent most of his life living in the Leesville area. Bill married Lillie Marie Knandel on October 10, 1954. They moved to the Gonzales area for a few years then they returned to Leesville where he was a farmer and rancher.

Bill found great joy in a lot of different activities. He loved working cattle, good horses, and good cowdogs. He liked music and dancing. He liked spending time with friends and telling stories and jokes, and he always had a joke. He liked trail rides, swimming parties, and suppers at “the reservoir”. He liked gardening and spent hours gardening with his grandchildren. He even had vegetable plants growing at the Texan Nursing Facility.

Bill thought it was extremely important to serve his community. He was a devoted Mason for 63 years, and he was very proud of the charitable works of the Masons and the values for which they stand. As the father of three active children, he spent years coaching little league, attending sporting events, serving as a 4-H leader, working with FFA projects, and as a director of the Nixon Livestock Show. He served as a director of GVTC for 34 years and as a director of GVEC for 30 years. During this time, he had opportunities to travel to many interesting places. Some of his most memorable trips were to Washington D.C. where he particularly liked the Smithsonian and seeing the Vietnam Memorial Wall, the Borax Mines in Death Valley, Palm Springs, Disney World, Mexico, and Hawaii. He loved to travel and see new things.

Bill is survived by his three children, Billy Paul Lott of Nixon, Lori Lindemann and husband Tom, of Cost, Sheri Wilkerson and husband Darryl, of LaGrange. His beloved grandchildren are Karlea Shippey and husband Justin, of Spring Branch, Leigh Coke and husband Gary, of Gonzales, Tel Lindemann and wife Jinna, of Monthalia, Jake Wilkerson, of LaGrange, and Beth Lindemann, of Gonzales. Great-grandchildren are Wyatt and Wrilyn Shippey, Aubrey Lindemann, Lilah Coke, Rhyann Wilkerson, and Avery Lindemann.

A memorial service will be held for Bill at the Monthalia United Church on Saturday, April 22, at 11 a.m.

There will be a visitation preceding the memorial service from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Monthalia Parish Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Scottish-Rite Children’s Hospital in Dallas or the Monthalia UMC Memorial Fund.
